Papers, 1826-1863.

Letters of an army officer to his family describing the areas in which he served, including Green Bay in two brief visits in 1826 and 1831. He also discusses pay, promotions, and furloughs, an interview with President Andrew Jackson in 1835, and the 1836 campaign against the Cherokee Indians in Florida and Georgia, which Lindsay directed. Letters concerning this campaign emphasize the problems of public indifference and the inefficiency of militia troops. There are a few references to General Winfield Scott and Colonel Zachary Taylor, and to Scott's expedition against the Cherokees in 1838. Also includes letters from Lindsay's widow, Anna, to her family dealing mostly with personal and financial matters.
